The Greatest Love Story

By Mary Vee
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John

Sometimes those we love disappoint us.

Sometimes they hurt us

Sometimes those we love say they don't like us anymore.

Sad to say, even little things can cause this.

Something we said, or did, or should have said, or should have done. Wow.

The Bible says God loves us no matter what we've said or done.

God made a special place called heaven where everything is perfect. There are no tears, no bullies, no hunger, no sickness, nothing that makes us sad. God will give us all a wonderful place to live, food, friends, and more.

To go to heaven, though, we must be perfect. And none of us are perfect. I know I'm not.

I'd like to be, but I'm not.

God knew no one could be perfect. We have all done something wrong like disobeying, lying, stealing (even taking something small like a pencil that doesn't belong to us is stealing). It only takes one time one moment of disobeying to keep us from being able to go to heaven one day.

So what can we do?

Well, we can't.

But God could.

He loves us so very much that He sent His son Jesus to take our punishment for us.

Jesus, God's Son, was born, He grew up like any other child except He never did anything wrong, and when He became a man He started His work to save us.

*He taught special men called disciples about God.
*He showed thousands of people God's love with miracles of healing people.
*He spoke with people who thought they would never be loved by anyone and told them how much God cared about them (Nichodemus, Zaccheus, Thomas, Martha, Mary, and so many more).

Then when the right time came, Jesus paid for all the wrong things we did by dying on a cross. It was very painful. He never did anything wrong and didn't deserve to be punished. But he chose to do this so that we could go to heaven.

Does this mean that everyone gets to go to heaven?

No.

Sadly, some people will not be able to go to heaven. God says in the Bible:

For God so loved he world that he gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

What God means is: He is handing all of us a present. Inside the present is a ticket to go to heaven. We have to take the present in order to have it. We have to believe that Jesus died for us and took our punishment. When we believe in Jesus, we will be able to go to heaven.

God doesn't make it difficult. He only want us to love His Son like He does, and believe that Jesus took our punishment.

This is the Greatest Love Story. We are loved no matter what we have done or will do. We have a gift, a way to go to heaven. All we have to do is believe Jesus died for us and love Jesus.
