My name is Amy Carmichael. I am a missionary in India.
Arulai was a ten-year-old girl. Her story of asking Jesus into her heart has been so exciting to share.This is part seven.

Arulai walked to my village and searched for me. She had news that made her happy, I could see it in her beautiful brown eyes. "My parent want me to come home. I can tell them all about Jesus," she said.
I didn't want to discourage her, but I had seen many excited Christians harmed for sharing their faith in Jesus. Some have even died.
I couldn't stop her, but I could pray. Several weeks passed and she she still hadn't returned from her four day visit. I prayed but felt God wanting me to do more. I wrote to her parents asking permission to let her return to us, to learn new lessons, even for just a few days.
The messenger returned to me. He said Arulai's father was very angry. Her mother, though, said, "Let her go, just to visit the ammal. We haven't been able to get her to follow the ways of our gods. Maybe this will help her."
He gave in and agreed to let her visit me for only a day. Her mother would bring her.
The messenger said, "Arulai leaped out from a back room. Her eyes, Miss Carmichael, they were so full of joy."
His smile and the news touched me so deeply. I cleaned, and sang hymns, so excited to see this child who loved Jesus with all her heart.
The next day I watched for her and saw Arulai and her mother walking from a distance. As they neared the door I ran out to greet them. Arulai ran to me and wrapped her arms around me. She collapsed in my arms.
I felt her head. She was burning with fever. I could see she had become seriously ill and had other signs of being persecuted at her father's house.
While my heart ached for her, I didn't realize until later that this terrible illness was all in God's plan. Arulai was too ill to return home. Her frail body teetered between life and death for weeks. We continued to nurse her and give her a safe place until she was finally well.
When her parents heard Arulai was well, they agreed to let her stay at her uncle's house and visit the missionaries. Arulai's faith in Jesus grew every day. She seemed so happy and strong.
But one day her father came to her uncle's house. "I am here to bring Arulai home."
